The four lounges, and where each one is
Terminal 8 keeps its lounges simple to count and hard to get into. There are four, all past security, all with published hours from American Airlines itself:
- Greenwich Lounge: above Gate 12, daily 4:15 AM to 1:15 AM. The broadest of the three joint lounges, with a bar British Airways calls the Bridge Bar and a Tasting Room pouring Brooklyn Brewery beer.
- Soho Lounge: above Gate 14, daily 4:15 AM to 11:30 PM, with runway views, work pods, a library and a quiet area.
- Chelsea Lounge: above Gate 14, daily 4:15 AM to 11:30 PM. The top of the range, with a circular champagne bar and a la carte dining; British Airways describes it as serving customers flying in First.
- Admirals Club: Concourse C, third floor after the security checkpoint, across from Gate 42, daily 4:15 AM to 10:30 PM.
The three names come from neighborhoods in London and New York, which is the tell for what they are: a joint operation between American Airlines and British Airways, built after the two airlines moved in together. Nothing at Terminal 8 sells walk-up lounge entry, and no credit card lounge operates in the building, which makes this terminal the mirror image of Terminal 4's lounge lineup, where the card lounges cluster and the airline flagships share the floor.
How the American and British Airways set works
American's own wording is the clearest guide: access to Greenwich, Soho and Chelsea "depends on your AAdvantage status, fare class and ticket," with a qualifying ticket on American, British Airways or a oneworld airline. In practice the three doors form a ladder. Greenwich is where most eligible passengers land. Soho serves a higher tier. Chelsea is the summit, and British Airways pitches it at First class flyers, with the champagne bar to match.
Neither airline publishes a single clean table of exactly which status plus which cabin opens which door, and the combinations change. Before you fly, check your specific ticket against the lounge finder on aa.com or ba.com rather than a chart on a review site: the review sites photograph the rooms well and date badly.
What the system replaced is worth knowing if you last flew British Airways from JFK a while ago. BA left Terminal 7 for Terminal 8 in 2022 when the two airlines co-located, and no British Airways lounge operates at Terminal 7 today. If your memory of a BA lounge at JFK is a Terminal 7 memory, the whole operation has moved. The Terminal 8 guide covers who flies from the building now.
Admirals Club
The Admirals Club is the everyday door, and the only one of the four that a lounge membership opens. It sits in Concourse C, on the third floor after the security checkpoint, across from Gate 42, and runs 4:15 AM to 10:30 PM daily. American lists complimentary food and drinks, a full-service bar, Wi-Fi and a kids room, which makes it the practical choice with children in tow.
Entry follows American's Admirals Club rules: membership, eligible cards and tickets, with guest allowances that depend on how you qualify. Those rules live on aa.com and move often enough that the durable advice is the same as for the joint lounges: check your own eligibility there before you plan a visit around it.
Note the geography, because it is the one catch. Concourse C is the far side of the walk-time table: the terminal quotes 6 to 8 minutes from security for gates 42 to 47, against 2 to 4 minutes for the gates near the joint lounges. If you are boarding from a low-numbered gate, the Admirals Club is a round trip you should time.
Naps, games, and where Priority Pass actually stands
Priority Pass lists no lounge at Terminal 8. Its two entries in this terminal are not lounges at all: Minute Suites, private nap suites listed as available 24 hours, and Gameway, a video game lounge open 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Both are useful, and neither will feed you dinner.
That surprises people who buy a lounge membership for a trip through JFK, so the airport-wide picture belongs on this page in one sentence: six of the seven Priority Pass lounges at JFK are at Terminal 1, the seventh is at Terminal 4 and closes at 1:30 PM, and the network's presence at Terminals 5, 7 and 8 is rest and play spaces rather than lounges. The JFK lounges guide maps every program across the airport.
One more absence to plan around: JFK publishes no public showers anywhere in the airport. At Terminal 8 that makes the lounges the only route to one, which is worth confirming with your airline before a long connection.
Locations, timing, and the honest plan
All four lounges open at 4:15 AM daily, which lines up with the earliest transatlantic and transcontinental departures the terminal handles. On the other end of the day, only Greenwich stays open past midnight, to 1:15 AM, so a delayed late-evening departure funnels everyone with access into one room.
Map the doors against your gate before you settle in. Greenwich sits above Gate 12 and Soho and Chelsea above Gate 14, in the 2 to 4 minute band of the terminal's own walk times. The Admirals Club at Concourse C is the outlier at 6 to 8 minutes from security. The Terminal 8 map guide puts the gate ranges and walk bands in one place.
If no door on this page opens for you, the fallback at Terminal 8 is genuinely good: the terminal's redeveloped lineup runs to more than 60 shops and restaurants. The Terminal 8 food guide covers where to spend the wait instead.
