JFK Terminal 7: the airlines still here, and where they go next

JFK Terminal 7 is the airport's wind-down in progress: ten airlines still check in, every gate is minutes from security, and the whole operation is emptying into the new Terminal 6 next door ahead of demolition. Travel sites keep reporting the moves as finished before they happen, and all ten carriers are still checking in here.

Airlines at Terminal 7

Ten airlines check in at Terminal 7, a mix of transatlantic, Asian and budget carriers that shared the building after British Airways left for Terminal 8 in 2022. The full list:

  • Aer Lingus (committed to Terminal 6)
  • Air Canada (committed to Terminal 6)
  • ANA - All Nippon Airways (committed to Terminal 6)
  • Condor (committed to Terminal 6)
  • Ethiopian Airlines (committed to the New Terminal One)
  • Frontier Airlines (committed to Terminal 6)
  • HiSky Europe
  • Icelandair (committed to Terminal 6)
  • Kuwait Airlines (committed to Terminal 6)
  • Norse Atlantic Airways (committed to Terminal 6)

The notes carry the page's most important correction. Seven of these ten carriers are on Terminal 6's own airline partner list, checked against the developer's site on September 11, 2026, and all seven still check in at Terminal 7: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, ANA, Condor, Frontier Airlines, Kuwait Airlines and Norse Atlantic. Ethiopian Airlines is committed to the New Terminal One instead, on the far side of the airport, and HiSky Europe and Icelandair have published no destination at all. Signing a lease is not moving in. A gate in use at Terminal 6 is not a terminal a passenger checks in at, and nobody checks in at Terminal 6 yet. When a travel site and the directory disagree, the directory wins, and your boarding pass outranks both. The airline terminal guide covers every carrier at JFK.

Getting to Terminal 7

By public transport, ride the AirTrain, which stops at Terminal 7 on the airport loop: free between terminals, terminal to terminal in under 10 minutes with trains every 5 to 15, and $8.75 one way only at the Jamaica and Howard Beach exits.

From Manhattan, take the subway to Jamaica (J or Z) or Howard Beach (the A) and connect to the AirTrain, $11.75 all in: $3 subway plus $8.75 AirTrain, or pay more for the faster Long Island Rail Road from Jamaica. Every route is compared on the guide to getting into Manhattan.

By car, Terminal 7 sits on the Central Terminal Area loop, reached by the JFK Expressway under the airport's current guidance, with the Van Wyck Expressway serving Terminals 1 and 4. Drop-off is at the terminal curb; pickup carries the live exception: the airport's own advisory says ride app pickup for Terminal 7 has temporarily relocated to the Howard Beach AirTrain Station due to construction, so meeting an Uber or Lyft means a AirTrain ride first, at $8.75 because the fare applies on exit at Howard Beach. Taxis follow the posted curbs. The airport map guide shows where Terminal 7 sits on the loop.

Parking: no lot of its own anymore

Terminal 7's Orange Lot was marked closed under the rebuild, and as of September 11, 2026 the airport's parking rate list carries no Terminal 7 lot at all. The practical answer is the Terminal 8 Red Lot, the cheapest terminal garage at JFK at $4 a half hour, a 24-hour maximum of $74, or from $62 prebooked, or the Long-Term Parking Lot at $55 a day and from $39 prebooked. Either way, the free AirTrain closes the gap to Terminal 7.

Two contradictions in the airport's own systems are worth knowing so they do not fool you. The parking page's height-limit boilerplate still names a Terminal 7 garage, and the prebooking site has previously offered an Orange Lot reservation after the closure; the rate list is the operative record, and it lists five lots, none of them Terminal 7's. Book against the lots the main page prices, and see the JFK parking guide for every rate and rule.

Layout and facilities

Terminal 7 is compact and getting more so. The airport's walk-time table is one line: every gate, 1 to 5 minutes from security, the shortest published walk at JFK alongside Terminal 1's. The terminal's own page lists the practical basics: free Wi-Fi, charging stations, family restrooms, nursing suites and pet relief areas, plus what it calls streamlined check-in and priority TSA access for families.

Set expectations accordingly: this is a small international terminal in wind-down, not a destination building. The compensation is speed, because nothing in it is far from anything else, and a tight connection or a late arrival at the checkpoint hurts less here than anywhere at the airport.

Food and drink

The airport's Terminal 7 page names the working set itself, which is rare and worth taking at face value: Le Grand Comptoir, the specialty wine bar it points departing passengers at; Bento for sushi; Brindle Room; and a Dunkin' it recommends on the arrivals side. Shopping is Hudson News and duty-free.

That is a short bench next to the 40-venue and 60-venue programs at Terminals 5 and 8, and no comparable investment is coming to a building scheduled for demolition. The honest plan: eat a real meal before you come, or settle in at the wine bar; and if your lounge access works here, use it, because a lounge chair beats the concourse in this building. On a long wait with no access anywhere, the AirTrain is free and Terminal 8's food hall program is one stop away, security re-clear included in the price.

Lounges

Two lounges remain: the Aer Lingus Lounge near Gate 1, for Business Class plus AerClub Concierge and Platinum members, and the shared Horizons T7 Lounge, where each airline sets its own entry rules and ANA publishes the clearest ones. No Priority Pass entry exists anywhere in this building, and the lounges older guides list left with British Airways and Alaska Airlines. Hours, access and the corrections are on the Terminal 7 lounges guide.

Check-in and security

Ten airlines share the check-in hall and one security operation, and the terminal advertises priority TSA access for families, which is worth knowing with a stroller in tow. The standard floors hold: three hours before an international departure, two before a domestic one, and most of this terminal's schedule is international.

Once through, you are effectively at your gate, with every one of them 1 to 5 minutes away. Security waits move week to week, so check the live figure on the day; the security wait guide covers where to look. Arriving passengers clear immigration and customs here as at any international terminal, then exit to a compact arrivals level where the airport's own suggestion is the Dunkin'.

What happens to Terminal 7

Terminal 7 is retiring in phases into the new Terminal 6: a $4.2 billion, 1.2 million square foot building with ten gates, nine of them wide-body, spanning the sites of the former Terminal 6 and today's Terminal 7, delivered by the Port Authority with JFK Millennium Partners. Its developer says the first five gates open in 2026, and no airline checks in at Terminal 6 yet.

No per-airline move calendar is published, so only the shape is knowable, not the dates: carriers leave Terminal 7 for Terminal 6 as it phases open, and the Terminal 7 building comes down once they have. Seven of the ten have signed for Terminal 6, one for the New Terminal One, and the last two have said nothing public. Check your boarding pass near travel, and follow the Terminal 6 guide and the terminal overview for the rebuild's current state.

Practical tips

  • Trust the directory and your boarding pass, not a travel site. The most repeated error about this terminal is a premature move to Terminal 6. Nobody checks in at Terminal 6 yet.
  • Drive to Terminal 8 or the Long-Term Lot. The Orange Lot is closed and unpriced; the Red Lot at $74 or the Long-Term Lot at $55 plus a free AirTrain ride is the whole answer.
  • Riding Uber or Lyft out, head for Howard Beach. The airport's advisory has ride app pickup at the Howard Beach AirTrain Station for now, one AirTrain ride away at $8.75, because exiting there passes a fare gate.
  • Flying with kids, use the family lane. The terminal itself advertises priority TSA access for families, and nursing suites and family restrooms are on its published list.
  • Eat before you come, or befriend the wine bar. Four named venues is the working set; Le Grand Comptoir is the airport's own pick for the departure wait.
  • Do not plan around this page in six months. Everything here is checked as of September 11, 2026 and this terminal changes by design. The date at the foot of the page is part of the content.

Frequently asked questions

Which airlines fly from JFK Terminal 7?

Ten airlines check in at Terminal 7: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, ANA, Condor, Ethiopian Airlines, Frontier Airlines, HiSky Europe, Icelandair, Kuwait Airlines and Norse Atlantic Airways. That is the airport directory's list as of September 11, 2026. The terminal is emptying into Terminal 6 in phases, so this list only shrinks; check your boarding pass close to travel.

Has Air Canada moved to Terminal 6 at JFK?

No, and this is the most commonly wrong fact about Terminal 7. Air Canada is on Terminal 6’s own airline partner list, along with ANA, Aer Lingus, Condor, Frontier Airlines, Kuwait Airlines and Norse Atlantic, but every one of them was still checking in at Terminal 7 as of September 2026, per the airport’s own directory, and no airline checks in at Terminal 6 yet. Several travel sites report the moves as done; the directory is the source that decides, and your boarding pass is the final word.

Is JFK Terminal 7 closing?

Yes, in phases. Its airlines move to the new Terminal 6 being built partly on the neighboring site, and the Terminal 7 building is then demolished; the new terminal spans the sites of the former Terminal 6 and today’s Terminal 7. The airport has not published a per-airline move calendar, so treat every departure date you read as unconfirmed until your airline announces its own.

Where do I park for JFK Terminal 7?

Not at Terminal 7. Its Orange Lot was marked closed under the rebuild and no longer appears in the airport’s parking rate list. Use the Terminal 8 Red Lot, the cheapest terminal garage at $74 for 24 hours or from $62 prebooked, or the Long-Term Parking Lot at $55, and ride the free AirTrain to Terminal 7.

Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at Terminal 7?

Temporarily not at the terminal. The airport’s own advisory says ride app pickup for Terminal 7 has relocated to the Howard Beach AirTrain Station because of construction, so arriving passengers ride the AirTrain out first, and that leg costs $8.75 because the fare applies on exit at Howard Beach. The advisory is explicitly temporary, so check the live guidance on the day.

What food is at JFK Terminal 7?

The airport’s own Terminal 7 page names the working set: Dunkin’, sushi at Bento, Brindle Room, and Le Grand Comptoir, the specialty wine bar, with Hudson News and duty-free for shopping. It is a short list next to the big terminals, so plan a proper meal before you come or count on the wine bar rather than a food court.
